The American Council on Exercise is proud to share that a number of our esteemed colleagues and collaborators are featured in a groundbreaking new textbook entitled Obesity and Weight Management: The Exercise Professional’s Guide to Fitness Programming.

Edited by internationally recognized educator and researcher Alexios Batrakoulis, PhD, CSCS, *D, ACSM-EP, FACSM, of the International Obesity Exercise Training Institute, this publication marks a pivotal advancement in how exercise professionals can successfully support individuals living with overweight and obesity. This comprehensive and practical resource is designed to elevate the role of professionals in multidisciplinary obesity care.

Through evidence-based strategies, real-world case studies and inclusive programming approaches, the book provides exercise professionals with practical ways to empower clients with overweight or obesity to participate in fitness experiences that are not only safe and effective, but also engaging and enjoyable.

Here is quick rundown of some of the notable contributions made by members of the ACE network:

  • Alexios Batrakoulis, who put together this amazing textbook, is an ACE subject matter expert and the international partner of ACE in Greece.
  • Lauren Shroyer, MS, ATC, Vice President of Product Development and Innovation at ACE, contributed a sample workout for training clients with obesity and lower-extremity joint pain.
  • Daniel Green, Senior Project Manager and Editor for Publications and Content Development at ACE, wrote a case study exploring his own experience with behavior change and weight loss.
  • Erin Nitschke, EdD, a member of the ACE Scientific Advisory Panel and a frequent contributor to the ACE blogs and CERTIFIED, authored a case study on coaching clients with obesity through behavioral versus nonbehavioral goals.

We’d also like to thank the other members of the ACE network who made valuable contributions to this text.

Obesity and Weight Management is a fantastic reference for anyone working in the health and fitness industry.
