As an adult with a healthy appetite, I gained weight once I got a desk job at a credit union. After the birth of my son, even as a stay at home mom, I went back to my old ways. I quickly gained whatever weight I had lost from breast feeding. At Christmas I topped out at 155. On my 5' 3" frame this showed. I didn't even realize it until I tried to go get pants from my favorite store in the mall and couldn't fit into their largest size (12). I was done. I needed a change. For me, and my son I needed to be a good example.

My husband got me into weight lifting (the only exercise he knew). A love/hate relationship with it turned into love as I saw results, and gained a new confidence as I discovered. I was one strong momma!!! I needed to give other women this feeling. The confidence, happiness, strength, and self-worth I had found! I received my ACE personal training certification in August of 2009.

It was a slow process. I live in a rural community and the clients were limited. But I was gaining knowledge and confidence with each new client I got. After the birth of my daughter in 2011 I was forced to take an extended maternity leave due to changing child care circumstances. During this time I continued to encourage friends, and family with the information I had. Then something happened.

These little nuggets of information turned into a need within my church for a healthy living class. I put together a class based on a foundation of God and what he has to say about our physical growth, not just the spiritual. And, what do you know, he says a lot! In 1 Corinthians 9:27 Paul says, "But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others I myself should be cast away." In Deuteronomy 32 it talks about a man God took under his wing and discipled to spiritual growth. Until he left him in a place of honey and other indulgent foods. Left on his own he ate and ate. Vs. 15 "But Jeshurun waxed fat..." It said that because of his insecurity others were able to negatively influence him. And Moses (who is relaying this story), connects this to the decline of future generations!!! So much, I could go on and on.

The most wonderful thing about this class is the way it has been able to motivate the attendees to make changes and stick to those changes. An adherence I have never been able to spark from my clients in a secular setting. One of my attendees suffered a stroke 10 years ago and had given up on certain activities as impossible (running, jumping, or any exercise in general). Being only in her 40's she has so much life left to live. During the last 6 months she has dropped almost 30 lbs. And last fall, not only did she participate in a 5k with our group, but ran most of the second half crushing her 1 hour goal by 10 minutes!

Our group is still small, but we are mighty! And to say that I have been blessed by it would be an understatement. And I would never have been able to help her, or the others in this group, the way I have without my certification! Thank you 100x over.
