ACE Board of Directors
The American Council on Exercise's diverse board of directors is composed of distinguished leaders in the health and fitness industry who advise, govern and oversee policy and direction of the organization. This prominent panel provides valuable insight and collective expertise to support the organization's mission and needs, and assists with the leadership and general promotion of ACE. These individuals share ACE's dedication to the country's health and well-being, and commitment to enriching quality of life through safe and effective exercise.
Chair of the Board
John Ellis is the co-founder and CEO for Attune Health Management, a comprehensive health management service and online/mobile platform. Ellis recently served as chief information officer for Health Fitness Corporation. He was also senior specialist at Perot Systems Corp., where he led the design and development of large-scale software projects. He graduated from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, with a bachelor's degree in physical education.
Tony Rodríguez is an independent board member and strategic advisor who mentors CEOs and small business owners through The Chairman's Roundtable and CONNECT/SDSI. He has global C-level experience at Warner Bros. (COO, North America Home Entertainment) and Seagram Spirits and Wine (EVP, Deputy CEO, CFO and Chief of Staff). Rodríguez specializes in combining his finance and strategy expertise with talent development and business performance improvement. He serves on the boards of the Princeton Alumni Council, Cura Coffee and the Princeton Club of San Diego. Rodriguez has a bachelor's in economics (magna cum laude) from Princeton University and a master's in accounting from NYU’s Stern School of Business.
Samantha Lincoln is a finance executive with extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions. She currently serves as the director of business development for Pacific Pulmonary Services. Previously she worked in investment banking and private equity investing for firms including McDonald Investments, Key Bank, CapitalWorks and Instream Partners. Lincoln holds a bachelor's degree in economics and political science from Yale University. She lives in Erie, Pennsylvania, with her husband and two children.
Shannon Fable, 2013 IDEA and 2006 ACE Instructor of the Year, is a fitness business and programming consultant who has worked with brands such as Anytime Fitness, Schwinn®, Power Systems, ACE and BOSU® over the past 20 years. As an experienced educator and certified Book Yourself Solid® Business Coach, she helps fitness entrepreneurs navigate the industry and increase profits. Fable, a member of the ACE Board of Directors, is the owner of GroupEx PRO®, a cloud based group fitness management tool, and Balletone®.
Prior to his role as senior vice president of public policy and community engagement for Florida Blue, Jason Altmire served three terms as a U.S. Congressman and is a recognized leader on healthcare policy. He spent his early career in the healthcare industry at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and the Federation of American Hospitals. He currently serves on the U.S. Global Leadership Council's Florida Advisory Board, as well as the Florida Council on Economic Education and others. Altmire holds a master's in health administration from George Washington University and a bachelor's in political science from Florida State University.
With over 20 years of experience in corporate finance, international expansion planning, contract negotiation and more, Ariane L. Amiri currently serves as the CFO of Glasspro, Inc. She was the former CFO and managing director of Foenix Group, a merchant bank and management consulting company advising companies expanding internationally. Amiri served as director of investor relations for Shop at Home, Inc., and director of finance and operations and senior manager of financial analysis for Metromedia China Corporation. Amiri graduated from Ohio State University with a bachelor's in business administration and completed post-baccalaureate work at the university's college of medicine.
John Breslin, Ph.D.
John Breslin is a tenured lecturer in the School of Engineering and Informatics at the National University of Ireland, Galway. He serves as a leader of the Unit for Social Software at DERI, the world's premier semantic Web research institute. He co-founded Boards.ie, Ireland's largest discussion website, and its spinoff classified ads site. His work has garnered two IIA Net Visionary awards. Breslin also co-founded the U.S.-based company StreamGlider Inc., a real-time streaming newsreader.
A strategic marketing professional in both high-profile corporate and start-up environments, Kelly Gray specializes in business growth strategies and branding for corporations such as including Pepsi, Nike Swim and Nutrition 53. She serves as the director of corporate sales for Crocs Inc. and as a fitness instructor for Wellbridge. She holds a Certificate in Leadership as an alum of the President's Leadership Institute at the University of Colorado at Boulder and a bachelor's degree in advertising from the same institution.
A tenured policy analyst, Deena Margolis serves as founder and principal of Focali Consulting, LLC, a firm providing strategic management and public policy consulting services for government agencies, foundations and nonprofits. She has experience with local, state and federal policy, having worked for the Chief Administrative Office of the County of Los Angeles, the Mayor's Office of the City of Los Angeles, and the U.S. Department of Education. She also served as a lobbyist for a national nonprofit in Washington, D.C. She holds a master's degree in public administration from Columbia University.
As a health, fitness and diet brand consultant, Cindy Ratzlaff has worked with Kraft Foods, Curves International, Meredith Corporation and others on consumer-facing communications for brand growth. She was named to the prestigious Marketing 50 by Advertising Age for her award-winning launch of "The South Beach Diet," in which she advised 36 partners who published more than 23 million copies. She was lauded as one of the "20 Best Branded Women on Twitter" by Forbes and one of the "Most Influential Women Tweeting about Entrepreneurship" by Forbes Woman.
As the former fitness director of Prevention magazine, Michele Stanten created a marathon walking program and coached thousands of readers to walk full and half marathons across the country. She is the author of "Firm Up in 3 Weeks" and "Walk Off Weight," and has produced and appeared in more than a dozen exercise DVDs. She is also an ACE Certified Group Fitness Instructor and holds bachelor's degrees in magazine journalism and English from Syracuse University.
Nancey Trevanian Tsai, M.D.
Nancey Trevanian Tsai, M.D., is an assistant professor of neurosurgery at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). A long-time ACE Certified Professional, Dr. Tsai commenced her medical training in orthopedic surgery at Louisiana State University and completed her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Stanford University. An avid archer and lover of all physical activity, Dr. Tsai often says she is the most overcompensated personal trainer in the industry. She earned her first ACE certification in 1996 in an effort to better understand the human body while pursuing her medical degree.
Kimberly Wells, a senior international trade specialist with the U.S. Department of Commerce, specializes in helping the U.S. aerospace industry improve its international competitiveness. She works with the Departments of Defense and State, the White House and Congress to develop foreign economic policies that strengthen the aerospace industry. Wells is the chair of the Department of Commerce's Occupational Health Organization, which makes fitness facilities and programs available to over 3,000 department employees in Washington, D.C.
Asahel "Ash" E. Hayes, Ed.D.
A physical fitness and sports consultant based in California, Asahel "Ash" E. Hayes led national physical fitness and sports programs under former U.S. Presidents Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan. He served on the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Hayes has worked within the San Diego Unified School District in a variety of roles. He earned his doctorate in education and a master's degree in physical education/exercise science from UCLA.
