The White House is seeking input as it develops an upcoming Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health to inform a national strategy focused on increased healthy living.

In response, the Physical Activity Alliance (PAA) – where Graham Melstrand, ACE executive vice president of mission and innovation, presides as PAA’s board president – has submitted a letter that requests the physical activity community be an authentic stakeholder at the Conference and that robust recommendations for a commitment to physical activity promotion are included in the final report. Although the Conference is emphasizing hunger, PAA and ACE know that healthy eating and nutrition combined with regular physical activity are critical components to achieving optimal health and well-being.

Read the full PAA letter here.

ACE encourages individuals and organizations to submit comments regarding the White House Conference on Hunger, Health and Nutrition, where the PAA letter may be used as a model as needed. The deadline to submit comments is July 15, 2022.

There are multiple opportunities to share your ideas and comments, including:

  • Host your own partner-led convening. Check the Conference’s website for toolkits and guides in different languages.

In partnership with PAA, ACE commends the Biden-Harris Administration for launching an effort with the White House Conference on Hunger, Health and Nutrition (Conference) to increase physical activity and healthy eating by 2030 so that fewer Americans experience chronic diseases. Now is an urgent time in our nation’s history to focus on the importance of healthy living for mental and physical well-being as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic and associated social and economic stressors.
