The American Council on Exercise (ACE) today hailed the American Medical Association’s (AMA) updates to the language in the section guidelines for three Category III Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) codes for Health and Well-Being Coaching. The updated language passed by the AMA’s CPT Editorial Panel opens the CPT codes up for use by health coaches, as well as other health and medical occupations that deliver health coaching as part of their treatments, programs and interventions, including registered dietitians, nurses, diabetes educators, and others.

“ACE has a long held the belief that health coaches are an important part of the health care continuum,” said Cedric Bryant, PhD, FACSM president and chief science officer of the American Council on Exercise. “The AMA’s revisions to the CPT section guidelines allowing for broader utilization are good for patients and practitioners, including our own ACE Health Coaches, and other health and medical professionals that provide lifestyle behavior change coaching as a part of their services and interventions.”
