Many fitness professionals face a common challenge: helping clients continue to build strength when heavier loads are no longer effective, sustainable, or pain-free. As clients age or navigate hormonal shifts, joint limitations and recovery, traditional strength training approaches often fall short—despite the growing importance of maintaining muscle mass and function. Blood flow restriction (BFR) training has emerged as an evidence-informed approach that can produce measurable strength and hypertrophy adaptations making it an increasingly valuable tool for health and fitness professionals working with aging populations, clients with physical limitations, and individuals returning to exercise.
In this 2-hour recorded course, Ashley Selman, MA, CSCS, provides a clear, evidence-informed overview of BFR training—what it is, how it works, and why it has expanded into performance and general fitness. This course walks through the full process of introducing BFR into your training practice safely and effectively. You will learn how to screen clients appropriately, apply contraindication guidelines, and structure sessions that prioritize both safety and results. You’ll finish the course ready to design BFR programs for clients with a range of goals: building muscle and bone density, improving strength and cardiovascular health and training for the long term.
