There are many ways to recover after a sweaty workout. You can stretch, foam roll, or perform some active recovery moves, and there are plenty of devices that want to help you recover, too. But, stepping into a steamy sauna post-workout can offer many advantages and even extend the benefits of your exercise routine...

Many trainers recommend post-workout saunas. 'Heat helps bring nutrients and much-needed oxygen to your muscles, helping them relax and recover,' says AJ Mason, an American Council on Exercise-certified trainer at Studio SWEAT onDemand.

This helps reduce muscle soreness, and spending a few minutes in a sauna gives you a chance to relax and feel refreshed after a hard workout, she adds.

Using heat, whether it’s a sauna, hot tub, or another form of heat exposure after training, can enhance the normal training responses you can get, says Lance Dalleck, Ph.D., a professor of exercise and sport science at Western Colorado University and a member of the ACE scientific advisory panel...
