Help prenatal and postpartum clients with effective assessments and tailored consultations.
According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, less than 25% of moms-to-be meet the physical activity guidelines during their pregnancy and many new moms experience a reduced ability to work out postpartum. To combat inactivity in this demographic, an assessment and individualized plan are needed to best assist your clients as they nurture themselves at such a pivotal life moment.
Besides the time and energy constraints in prenatal fitness routines, there can be additional challenges, such as concerns about exercise safety and, for the postpartum client, the need for programs that address conditions like diastasis recti and incontinence. Through this course, you’ll gain knowledge surrounding the challenges the prenatal and postpartum demographic face and develop the skills to conduct appropriate assessments.
This course, led by Ashley Reid, Certified Exercise Physiologist and founder of Active Mom Fitness, will show you how you can improve your screenings and consultations to help more moms adapt to the physiological changes that occur during pregnancy, rebuild strength, and meet the physical demands of motherhood after giving birth.
Upon completion, you will be able to:
- Recognize signs and symptoms associated with prenatal and postpartum factors that could affect exercise safety and effectiveness
- Recognize and validate the barriers many new moms face when creating a workout routine
- Ask the right questions during a consultation so you can create a program with potential barriers in mind
- Determine what movements may be most beneficial to assess before designing an exercise program
