American Council on Exercise (ACE) Develops Precor Training Program

SAN DIEGO—To help further its mission of providing a safe fitness environment for the public, the American Council on Exercise (ACE) is working with equipment manufacturer Precor to train group fitness instructors to properly teach classes designed around the EFX ® Elliptical Fitness Crosstrainer™.

ACE, the leading nonprofit fitness education provider in the world, assisted Precor in the development of the equipment-based, group fitness Precor Fit—Elliptical Crosstraining Class. The new program will be launched during the Club Industry 2000 fitness convention in Chicago, Oct. 26-28.

In June, during the Club Industry East Business Conference in Denver, ACE trained 23 elite ACE Faculty members from across the nation to be Precor Master Trainers. When a club purchases the Precor Fit—Elliptical Crosstraining Class program, a Precor Master Trainer will be dispatched to train the club’s group fitness instructors.

“We were excited when Precor contacted ACE about raising the standard of equipment-based exercise programs,” said Ken Germano, ACE executive director. “They have set an example that we hope other manufacturers will follow. We have trained a core group of experienced ACE faculty to work with fitness professionals at clubs across the country to ensure that the Precor Fit program is introduced to club members safely and effectively.”

In addition to helping Precor establish the program, ACE also wrote and published the training manual, Precor Fit—Elliptical Crosstraining Class, which will be distributed to participating clubs.

“We turned to ACE because they’re the leaders in training and Precor is the leader in the elliptical fitness crosstrainer market,” said Paul Byrne, president of Precor. “ACE’s input on the design of the program, packaged with the training manual and the network of Precor Master Trainers will maximize the impact of the equipment in the group class setting.”

The Precor Fit—Elliptical Crosstraining Class is based on the principal of interval training to enhance general fitness. The core class is structured into a 25-minute workout that incorporates heart rate training, strength and flexibility. It utilizes body positions on the EFX that simulate hiking, biking, climbing, running and skiing.
