Brandy Burkett Ph.D.



Brandy is a 500-Hour Certified Yoga Instructor through Uplifted Yoga and teaches a Hatha Vinyasa style of yoga. She is also an American Council on Exercise Group Fitness Instructor. Brandy is a compassionate instructor fusing backgrounds in Psychology, Yoga, and Martial Arts to help empower others to reach their highest potential. She currently teaches virtual yoga classes via zoom and in-person yoga and movement classes at Bushin Martial Arts Academy of Richmond in Richmond, VA and at PESfit in Williamsburg, VA. Brandy earned her PhD in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2009 and is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at The College of William & Mary. Active her entire life, Brandy grew up a three-sport athlete, with a passion for basketball, continuing to play basketball at Franklin & Marshall College in Pennsylvania. Brandy fell in love with martial arts and has been training in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and Shorin-Ken Karatedo since 2010. Brandy achieved the rank of Shodan in in Karatedo in 2017. She was promoted to brown belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in 2020. In 2016, Brandy completed the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Instructor Certification Program. In her spare time, she loves cooking, gardening, and watching sunsets over the water.
