To support the exceptional work of exercise professionals and health coaches who are making a difference in their communities, Peter and Kathie Davis — founders of IDEA Health & Fitness Association — have established an IDEA World Convention Scholarship Fund to award up to five scholarships to attend the 2023 IDEA World Convention in Los Angeles, CA, July 12-16.

As an advocate for the advancement and development of industry professionals and a close partner of IDEA, the American Council on Exercise (ACE) is proud to support the administration of the scholarships. ACE believes in supporting health and fitness professionals in their careers, advancing the industry and creating physical activity opportunities for communities to live happier, healthier lives.

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide recipients with a unique opportunity to learn from the best thought leaders in the industry, network with like-minded professionals, advance their careers and become better prepared to make an impact on individuals and communities around the country.

This scholarship is made possible by Peter and Kathie Davis, who established the IDEA Health & Fitness Association in 1982, and later established the first professional fitness certification organization in 1985—the IDEA Foundation—which evolved into ACE. They dedicated their careers to fostering professionalism in the health and fitness industry, and inspired millions of people around the world to lead happier, healthier lives.

Each scholarship award includes a stipend that covers:

+ 2023 IDEA World Full Convention registration

+ Travel expenses related to the 2023 IDEA World Convention

Individual scholarship award amounts may vary and are determined by the IDEA World Scholarship Committee. Scholarship recipients are responsible for paying all taxes due on the value of the scholarship award. ACE will provide registration and travel booking support to scholarship recipients.

Kathie and Peter Davis

The IDEA World Convention Scholarship Program was established by Kathie and Peter Davis in 2018 and is administered by ACE. The program recognizes the exceptional work of exercise professionals and health coaches who are making a difference in their communities. Scholarship awards include event registration, travel, boarding, and meal stipend during the Convention.

"We are honored to continue supporting exercise professionals who help communities become more physically active," said Kathie Davis, former executive director for IDEA. "The initial purpose of IDEA was to 'Inspire the World to Fitness,' and the IDEA World Convention Scholarship Program in partnership with ACE helps take that inspiration to the next level — by recognizing and supporting those who are making positive changes in our communities."

In 1982, Peter and Kathie Davis co-founded IDEA Health & Fitness Association, providing fitness professionals with the industry's best professional tools and resources. The couple started IDEA on the strength of one basic premise: that by fostering professionalism in the health and fitness industry, millions of people around the world could live happier, healthier lives. Kathie served as IDEA's executive director and Peter as its CEO for about 34 years.

After establishing IDEA, the Davises founded the first formal professional fitness certification organization in 1985, the IDEA Foundation, now known as the American Council on Exercise (ACE).

The Davis' vision for developing innovative continuing education has significantly contributed to the maturation of the fitness industry into a growing, thriving field. Their leadership led to the establishment of the largest annual international fitness education event, IDEA World Convention, which annually draws over 15,000 fitness professionals from 60 countries to garner the tools they need to change millions of lives around the planet.
