The Latest American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Guidelines: What You Need to Know
For many health and fitness professionals, helping prenatal and postnatal clients feel healthy, strong and equipped for motherhood is a fulfilling professional experience. It is also one that requires special knowledge and skills. To safely and effectively train prenatal and postnatal clients, you need to follow guidelines set forth by the ACOG, which advises on the highest standards of practice in women’s health.
The current ACOG guidelines reflect more than a decade of research on perinatal exercise, as well as advice on core work during pregnancy and recommendations on exercising after birth.
In this video training, noted perinatal training expert and co-owner of Oh Baby! Fitness Kathleen Donahoe will guide you through the latest guidelines and explain what they mean to you and your clients. After completing this course, you will be able to safely and effectively work with pregnant and postpartum women and inspire confidence as they journey into motherhood.
You will learn:
- Specific ACOG recommendations for duration, frequency and intensity of exercise for healthy pregnant women
- Two common exercises for pregnant women that are now NOT recommended by ACOG
- The most important core exercises for pregnant women, and which ones to avoid
- How and when women can return to exercise after birth, including exercises they should resume shortly after giving birth
The instructor started moving and demonstrating the most critical principles with a pregnant client. Thank you! I would think every other presenter should learn from this. We train real clients, and I am so grateful this instructor went right to her model to teach rather than the "talking head" style videos which have made it difficult to watch, pay attention and complete CEUs online in the past. I will look for this instructor again! Great job!
This is a very informative course about the do’s and do not’s based on the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. As a Pilates instructor, I always enjoy hearing about engaging the Transverse Abdominals and a more complete picture of the power house.
