Understanding and applying the psychology of health and fitness requires basic knowledge of mind-body communication. Exercise psychologists are especially interested in how health behaviors such as physical activity impact body and mind, and how change in one area may affect other areas. The goal of this course is to highlight topics that will enhance understanding of exercise and health psychology and the behavior-change process. In addition to cutting-edge material on the three bodily systems most responsible for mind-body integration, the course also contains an engaging podcast featuring Exercise Psychologist Barbara Brehm, Ed.D., and ACE Exercise Physiologist Jacque Crockford.
You will learn:
- To conceptualize communication among the nervous, endocrine and immune systems as they coordinate physiological function.
- How the digestive, musculoskeletal and cardiorespiratory systems interact with other systems.
- How health behaviors influence the various systems of the body and how these systems influence health.
