This course defines the primary benefits of proper music usage and cueing techniques, which enhances an instructor's ability to teach and a student's ablity to follow in a group fitness class. Information on basic musical terms and counting in time to the music will be given. Instructors will be able to select music that is motivating and encourages participant adherence; and is appropriate music for each portion of the class based on tempo and format. The beginning of the musical phrase and 32 count block will be matched to move rhythmically to music in a simple movement pattern. Learning to cue correctly allows participants to execute movements and transitions smoothly. Proper verbal cueing and effective non-verbal cueing will protect the voice when a microphone is not available. At the end of this course instructors will demonstrate how to move rhythmically to music with simple given combinations, while executing verbal and visual cues necessary to meet the needs of the students.
