About

Fundamentally, I believe physical activity is not only an important component of a healthy body, but also an essential element of overall physical, emotional and mental health across the lifespan. Furthermore, everyone regardless of age, body size, race, ethnicity and social status can benefit from participating in a regular fitness routine. As simplistic as this idea is, I was originally drawn to kinesiology because I wanted to learn more about the complex issues contributing to the rising obesity trends in the United States, as well as what I could do to help reverse the trends. Initially, I was interested in working at elementary schools in inner cities and lower economical areas. However, as classes have expanded my knowledge, volunteer and internship work have stretched my ambitions. I do not expect to single-handedly reverse the obesity epidemic in this country. Conversely, I anticipate having a profound impact on the individual lives of the clients that entrust me with their resources, time and energy. My vision of success is more poignant than financial gains. I want to develop open, long lasting, professional relationships grounded in trust, respect and confidentiality. I value working with a diverse clientele that allows me to approach each person with a personalize strategy for achieving short and long term goals. I consider seminars, conferences and continuing education workshops an indispensable part of assuring clients that my certification and education level is relevant in a dynamic and progressing industry. Ethically, I think a great personal trainer understands personal limitations and professional confines. As a good friend once told me, “It is irresponsible to try to be all things, to all people.” Part of establishing trust and building an open relationship with clients is acknowledging situations when I need to refer clients to a more proficient trainer or qualified healthcare professional.
