This comprehensive book on yoga for athletes makes a compelling case for why and, more importantly, how athletes of every stripe can benefit from making yoga a regular part of their workout regimens.
As Sage Rountree writes in Chapter 1, “Yoga will make you a better athlete.” This book is divided into four sections, the largest of which features specific poses for athletes. Breathing and mental training are highlighted in Part 3, while specific routines and training plans are included in Part 4. Well-written and professionally produced, The Athlete’s Guide to Yoga is a great resource for athletes looking to improve their performance by incorporating flexibility training into their routines.
What we liked:
- High-quality photographs are accompanied by extensive explanations of each pose.
- The 15-minute DVD included with the book features warm-up and cool-down routines to bookend the training workouts.
What we didn’t like:
- While the explanation and photos are beautifully done, it can be hard to learn proper form on the more difficult poses from a book.
