SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Jan. 8, 2002 –The American Council on Exercise (ACE), America’s nonprofit fitness advocate, today announced that Cedric X. Bryant, Ph.D., has joined ACE as chief exercise physiologist and vice president of educational services. Dr. Bryant will be responsible for strengthening and managing ACE’s already established mission to promote active, healthy lifestyles and their positive effects on the mind, body and spirit to all segments of society.
Prior to joining ACE, Dr. Bryant served a Senior Vice President for StairMaster Health and Fitness Products, Inc. At StairMaster, he was responsible for research, development and design of all StairMaster product lines. In addition he led StairMaster’s Sports Medicine and Technical Service areas. Dr. Bryant’s experience also includes serving on the exercise science faculties of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Penn State University, and Arizona State University.
“Cedric brings more than 15 years of exercise science, health education and management insight to the American Council on Exercise, said Ken Germano, executive director of ACE. “As ACE continues to set certification and education standards for fitness instructors and the general public, we look to Cedric to provide strategic direction to expand our reach.”
Dr. Bryant lectures nationally and internationally on many topics related to exercise, fitness and health. He is an accomplished writer, having authored 14 books. His latest book is entitled Exercise Testing and Program Design: A Fitness Professional’s Handbook. He has also authored over 180 articles in a variety of sports medicine and fitness journals, including ACE Certified News, Fitness Management, IDEA Personal Trainer, the Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, and Shape.
An active member and fellow of the American College of Sports and Medicine, Dr. Bryant currently serves as an associate editor for ACSM’s Health & Fitness Journal, has served on ACSM’s Certification Committee, was an associate editor of ACSM’s Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription, 5th edition, and is an ACSM certified exercise specialist. He is also the chairman of the scientific advisory board for the American Council on Exercise and serves on the editorial board for ACE’s FitnessMatters.
Dr. Bryant holds both a Ph.D. in Physiology and an M.S. in Exercise Science from Pennsylvania State University.
