INDIANAPOLIS—The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the American Council on Exercise (ACE) have announced a marketing partnership that will culminate next spring, with ACSM’s annual Health & Fitness Summit & Exposition. The event will take place April 9 – 12, 2003 in Reno, Nevada, and will be held in cooperation with ACE.

ACSM and ACE serve the health and fitness practitioner with professional certifications. This marketing program will highlight opportunities for continuing education, enhanced meeting programming and greater professional development opportunities.

“The ACSM Health & Fitness Summit is well-known and attended by ACSM members and certified professionals. Our newly-formed marketing partnership with ACE extends our outreach to a wider audience of health and fitness professionals, allowing ACSM to further its mission,” said Edward T. Howley, Ph.D., FACSM, and ACSM president. “ACSM looks forward to reaching out to ACE professionals, and providing a sound, quality program that strengthens practitioners’ credentials and ultimately benefits the consumer.”

ACSM’s Health & Fitness Summit & Exposition is approaching its seventh year, with programming designed specifically for the health and fitness professional. Exercise scientists, personal trainers, researchers, sports medicine physicians and students come together for this four-day event to hear the latest information meant to bridge the gap between science and practice. The 2003 Summit will include programming expanding on already-popular tracks in nutrition, exercise for special populations, mind/body strategies, personal training and assessment, sports medicine, exercise program design, worksite health, and professional development.

“This partnership represents an important step in driving forward the industry and the field,” said Cedric Bryant, Ph.D., FACSM, and chief exercise physiologist/vice president of educational services for ACE. “The Summit will provide health and fitness practitioners with the information, training, and resources they need to be effective and skilled professionals. By enhancing the knowledge and skills of fitness professionals, together ACE and ACSM can help ensure that consumers safely experience the innumerable benefits of leading an active lifestyle.”

ACSM’s Health & Fitness Summit & Exposition in cooperation with ACE will take place at the Reno Hilton. For more information on the event, please visit www.acsm.org.
