Yoga and the Spinning® program are natural complements to one another. They’re similar in that both have a mental and a physical component. Teaching the physical part of the Spinning class is easy. It is the mental aspect that is often more challenging. The purpose of yoga is to develop self awareness. Therefore, incorporating yoga into a Spinning class enables us to introduce the mental component with ease. When we use breathing and/or a flowing sequence of yoga poses (asanas) as a warm-up, we can establish a mind/body connection that can carry over into the ride.
Using asanas as the cool-down keeps us focused on our bodies while we stretch the muscles used during the ride. This workshop is not a yoga instructor training or certification, but those who already have had some yoga training will learn to incorporate yoga and Spinning to create a combination class. In this workshop you will learn not only how to properly execute and teach basic yoga postures and sequences, but you will also learn how to create Yoga SPIN® classes at your facility. A Yoga SPIN® class is a combination class that starts with a Spinning ride and finishes with a 20-, 30- or 35-minute yoga segment.
