As a coach you will prescribe training based on the dual combination of stress and adaptation; training stresses the body by challenging the limits of its speed and endurance and then by applying the right amounts of stress at the right frequency the body will change in response, adapt to make it better able to handle the same stress when repeated; this is the training response. In offering a systematically planned program that utilizes the training response effectively a coach needs to understand how to offer a truly individual training regime, the signs associated with overreaching and how the lifestyle of an individual is just as important in mitigating the possibility of entering an over-trained state.
