COURSE DESCRIPTION/FUNDAMENTAL ELEMENTS: 1) GUIDED MEDITATATION AND FLOATING SIVASANA At the top of class, students are brought to focus through a guided visualization of the ultimate state of presence existing in the womb. (Womb pose) This state of being is then referred to throughout class to bring students back to a state of presence. The class closes with a self-empowering guided meditation, followed by Sivasana (deep rest). Both are taken while floating in the hammock. (Cocoon pose) 2) BREATHING Pranayama practices are introduced at the top of class to engage a deeper intake of oxygen for the benefit of the blood, muscles, and brain, and to further focus the mind/ body connection. These breathing forms are referred to throughout class to assist in constantly maintaining a deep state of presence. 3) ZERO COMPRESSION INVERSIONS 5 Various inversions are practiced at the top of class to provide natural traction to the spine, creating new space in the spinal column that will benefit the body throughout the class and after. In between inversions, various stretches warm up the body and draw mental focus to the spine. 4) GYROKINETIC MOVEMENT With the hammocks lowered to be 12 inches above the ground, the practitioner uses the floor and the hammock together to gain gyroscopic movement, opening the hips and spine. 5) SUSPENDED UNDULATION With the entire body encased in the hammock, the practitioner is guided to undulate the spine from both ends at once, allowing the spine to move in ways it has never known without the effects of compression or friction. 6) CONTROLLED TRACTION With the hammocks lowered to be 12 inches above the ground, the practitioner uses the floor and the hammock together to bring gentle traction to various parts of the spine from the horizontal plane.
