The word pranayama refers to the control of the breath or the movement of prana, otherwise known as our chi, or life force. Understanding and utilizing our breath is an important part of Yoga practice as well as any form of physical activity and helps to improve peak performance throughout our everyday life as well as our athletic and mind-body endeavors. The breath can also influence our state of mind and mood. This one-day course for Yoga practitioners, Yoga teachers, personal trainers, fitness instructors, and other students and professionals will review the practice of the breath from the Yogic and modern Western perspectives. This course will include how to practice and teach a variety of breathing techniques, including the understanding of contraindications and adaptations. Attendees will be taught how to incorporate the multifaceted science of the breath in their own practice and teaching and will both practice and team-teach in this one-day seminar.
