This course reviews the structures (bones, muscles, joints, etc.) that form the support of the human body. Proper biomechanics of each joint will be emphasized, including proper muscle firing patterns, joint mobilizers and joint stabilizers. Students learn the three main types of muscle contractions - concentric, eccentric and isometric - and how gravity plays a role in these contractions. Ideal posture (i.e. neutral posture) from an anatomical perspective will be taught. Students will learn how to detect abnormalities in posture - both statically and dynamically - and in biomechanics in terms of proper firing patterns vs. synergistic dominance.
