HealthyMotion: Protecting the Lumbar Curve in Group Exercise and Personal Training

This course will give group fitness instructors and personal trainers a new perspective on how to choose exercises for their clients/ class participants. This dynamic workshop will enhance the participants’ critical view of safer exercise choices vs. common exercises that can lead to low back injury. A combination of lecture, lab and practice in critical observation of exercise will enhance the participant’s ability to recognize safe and unsafe exercises. Students will identify exercises that overuse or overstretch the lumbar spine and will make connections to the underlying delicate anatomy. Then, students will be shown multiple options to address the same fitness goals for their participants while teaching clients to protect their low backs.
