Kettlebell training for the fitness professional began in 2001, when Pavel Tsatsouline presented the first RKC hardstyle kettlebell workshop. Since then, many fitness professionals, including Brook Benten, have achieved RKC and the new hardstyle training Pavel began in 2013, StrongFirst (SFG). Hardstyle is the traditional way kettlebells were used (in Russia). Hardstyle uses heavy weight, and exercises include "grinds," which are low-rep exercises for strength and hypertrophy and "ballistics," which are higher rep exercises for cardio and power. Soft-style kettlebell is a modern approach to kettlebell training which uses much lower weight and features non-stop cardio and muscular endurance programming. Soft-style is more appealing to men and women seeking fat-loss, toning, and general conditioning from kettlebells, but are uninterested in heavy lifting. Soft-style is also very appropriate for group fitness programming. Brook Benten, M.Ed., SFG II, will teach you both hardstyle and soft-style training methods in this course.
