This complete course is two programs in one and is designed with fitness instructors and physical therapists in mind. It teaches the beginner and intermediate exercise repertoire of the late Joseph H. Pilates including many of his original exercises plus many regressions and progressions through a downloaded electronic workshop format. It incorporates Pilates Essentials Online which teaches the history and principles of the late Joseph H. Pilates plus the Mat 1 Online program which teaches the actual mat 1 exercises. This program teaches Pilates Mat exercises from a teachers perspective addressing such things as correct form, biomechanics, and corrective cueing both verbal and hands-on. The course is taught by Frankie Owens-Puglisi who, in a series of video clips, shows each of the exercises, discussing the right and wrong techniques, and highlighting the best ways to teach the sequences. After each exercise, students practice on themselves and can study the details of the exercise in written form and take notes accordingly in the illustrated workbook included on the course. It is recommended that the student actually perform the exercises themselves to develop a deeper understanding of the nuances of the alignment principles and muscle recruitment patterns. Students receive enough information to teach a beginner through intermediate individual patient or a small group of patients Pilates Mat 1 class.
