Deceleration training is more than simply borrowing exercises from coaches and athletic trainers. It is a type of training that we, as fitness professionals, need to be able to understand and teach, level appropriate, for each exercise. In most classes cardiovascular and strength training are a push from the ground up. For example in a routine squat we lower the body and push up with our legs and glutes. In deceleration training we "drop" into the squat and push up. We learn to absorb force in our ankles, knees and hips. The more conditioned we are to absorb force by deceleration training, the less likely our participants are to strain a muscle or break a bone. Also the weekend warrior, who plays a varitey of sports, is better conditioned to excel in the sport.
