Aerialates is a form of suspension training designed to improve body awareness, muscular strength, and flexibility in a safe, innovative, and encouraging environment. Aerialates training incorporates many of the Pilates principles, and exercises are performed with the type of equipment used by circus performers. Aerialates exercise, like Pilates, focuses on core strength, yet adds challenge and fun to traditional Pilates-style exercises. Of all the Pilates principles, the Aerialates curriculum most emphasizes shoulder stability, pelvic placement, and cervical spine placement. Participants are encouraged to apply the concepts of Aerialates exercises to other physical tasks that they perform in their daily lives (e.g., reaching for something overhead). Perhaps most importantly, Aerialates training brings an innovative, youthful approach to exercise that empowers participants to rely on their own strength for support. This AERIALATES: THE FUNDAMENTALS course is designed for certified Pilates and fitness professionals to inspire, challenge, and motivate clients. It is a foundational course for further training in the Aerialates curriculum.
