This six hour preconference workshop is designed to enhance the nutrition background of any professional working in the area of exercise and fitness who does not have a degree or credential in nutrition or dietetics. The goal of this precon is to provide state- of -the- art, evidence- based nutrition information that would be both useful and practical to the practices of athletic trainers, fitness professionals, and exercise leaders. The material presented at the preconference will not be presented at the formal conference. Topics to be covered include: manipulating body composition to optimize appearance and performance; avoiding muscle loss with aging; new foods to enhance energy and fitness; tackling the new dietary guidelines and incorporating them into your practice; eating and drinking to avoid illness and injury, and a hot topic question and answer session. Preconference speakers include Liz Applegate, PhD, FACSM; Kristine Clark, PhD, RD, FACSM; Nanna Meyer, PhD, RD; and Nancy Rodriquez, Ph.D., RD, FACSM.
