About Deborah Larsen: I have been a Group Exercise Fitness Instructor for over 20 years,all of those years spent teaching between 7-10 classes per week. I have taught just about every group exercise class format in that time. I have been certified by ACE since 1991. My exercise philosophy could be summed up as: "Quality, Variety, Intensity, Consistency": Build on a solid foundation of correct form, finding exercises that you like and will stick with (be willing to experiment to find the ones that are right for you, having three favorite forms of aerobic exercise that you are able to do at the gym, or when you travel and, in addition, include weight work, flexibility and balance work); pick the time of day that works best for you where there will be no interferences, and block that time at least five times per week with an ultimate goal of being active just about every day (consistency is KEY to success); vary the intensity and duration of your workouts (every workout should not be too easy, or too difficult for that matter). Be prepared to make exercise a PERMANENT addition to your life (think of it like brushing your teeth, showering and eating every day). It will enhance the quality of your life, and can extend the length of your life, as well. If you're the type that needs a buddy, find a person who is also serious about getting and staying physically fit and healthy. Group classes are the best way to not only work out, but find camaraderie, and stay motivated. Finally, exercise can be great fun...that's why it's important to find activities you enjoy. Keep in mind that exercise helps life your mood, and can help with depression, too. Remember, it's one of the best investments in your future you can make!
