Working with the “older” adult (50+) is somewhat of a calling for me. As part of that generation I feel led to share with my peers some of the things I’ve found out about the human body as it “matures”.Since the year 2000, I have been passionately involved in the Wellness industry- first as a Certified Massage Therapist, and later as an ACE Certified Personal Trainer. As a Massage Therapist, I am well versed in maintaining wellness by relieving muscular discomfort and increasing joint flexibility. As a Personal Trainer, I can now enhance that philosophy by promoting fitness through increasing muscular strength, and improving balance and cardiorespiratory endurance. I am uniquely qualified to offer an integrated approach to Wellness and Fitness.Aging is a process of change. Each of us has the ability to manage our own Fitness and Wellness during this process through lifestyle modifications that meet the changing needs of our bodies. For many of us, aging means “slowing down”. We cut back on our activity levels to accommodate the imitations we are confronted with in the aging process. Research has demonstrated that maintaining joint flexibility is one of the keys to longevity. A lack of flexibility often forces us to reduce our activity level and to maintain a more sedentary lifestyle. Flexible joints are a result of well conditioned muscles and strong bones, both of which may be achieved through fitness training. Moreover, resistance training coupled with aerobic exercise such as walking, can prevent the loss of existing muscle, which can help prevent osteoporosis, heart disease and type 2 diabetes. These results aren’t obtained by spending hours a day sweating in a gym- 1 hour a day, 2-3 days/week of light aerobics and low resistance weight training is generally sufficient to make noticeable improvements in our fitness levels, state of wellness and our quality of life. Isn’t it time you made an investment in the quality of YOUR life?
