Senior Consultants

Our team of senior consultants provides insight to ACE on emerging industry trends in areas of personal training, group fitness, health and fitness club environments, corporate wellness, healthcare and technology. They also assist in the development of continuing education and execution of public outreach efforts aimed at helping people live their most fit lives. ACE senior consultants represent our organization at industry events worldwide.

Chris Freytag

Senior Consultant, Health & Fitness

A nationally recognized health and wellness expert, Chris Freytag is an accomplished blogger, author and motivational speaker. Aside from holding ACE Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor and Health Coach certifications, she has been training and teaching classes for more than 20 years. Chris is the author of Two Week Total Body Turnaround, Move to Lose, Shortcuts to Big Weight Loss and Choose This!, a cookbook of healthy recipes made with whole food. With a bachelor’s degree in journalism, Chris has also written numerous articles on health and fitness and serves as a contributing editor for Prevention magazine. She has produced dozens of fitness DVDs including the popular 10lb Slimdown Xtreme, and she still teaches regular classes at Life Time Fitness in Minneapolis.



Michael Mantell, Ph.D.

Senior Consultant, Behavioral Sciences

Michael Mantell earned his Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania and his M.S. at Hahnemann Medical College, where he wrote his thesis on obesity. He’s served as the Chief Psychologist of Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego and the Chief Psychologist for the San Diego Police Department. He provides breakthrough strategies to help business leaders, athletes, individuals and families create healthy, fit and happy trajectories in life. He is the Senior Consultant for Behavioral Sciences for ACE, an international behavior science fitness presenter, an Advisor to numerous companies and fitness organizations, on the Sports Medicine team of The Sporting Club of San Diego and is featured in many international media outlets. He is listed in the 2013 "The 100 Most Influential People in Health and Fitness."



Chris McGrath

Senior Consultant, Personal Training

Chris McGrath is the founder of Movement First, a New York City-based health and fitness education, consulting and training organization. Drawing on more than 20 years of fitness and coaching experience, Chris specializes in a variety of training modalities including sports performance, injury prevention, post-rehabilitation, and lifestyle and wellness coaching. He has successfully established himself as an international fitness expert and has presented and consulted for some of the most successful fitness organizations in the world including ACE, Functional Movement Systems, TRX®, Reebok, EA Sports Active and numerous others. Chris holds a master’s degree in exercise science, a bachelor’s degree in health education, and he currently serves as an adjunct professor at Long Island University in Brooklyn, N.Y.



Jonathan Ross

Senior Consultant, Personal Training

Jonathan’s "800 pounds of parents" inspired his fitness career as a two-time Personal Trainer of the Year Award-Winner (ACE and IDEA), fitness thought leader, and fitness/media expert for Discovery Fit & Health. His book, Abs Revealed, is a modern, intelligent approach to abdominal training. His brain-based fitness training is transforming lives by transforming attitudes about fitness. A former astronomer, Jonathan used to study stellar bodies – now he builds them!



Ted Vickey

Senior Consultant, Emerging Technologies

Ted Vickey is president of FitWell LLC, an international fitness management and design company serving corporate America, and the fitness and golf industries. His past experience includes 11 years as executive director of the White House Athletic Center, a post he held throughout the presidencies of George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. He has collaborated with the Department of Commerce, Fruit of the Loom, Osram Sylvania, and the Securities and Exchange Commission, and also spent six years as vice president of Comprehensive Health Services, Inc. Ted currently splits his time between San Diego, CA, and Ireland, where he is pursuing a doctorate degree in technology and fitness.
