ACE Joins Committee on Accreditation for the Exercise Sciences (CoAES)

Posted: June 18, 2007 in ACE Press Releases

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (June 18, 2007) – The American Council on Exercise (ACE), America’s nonprofit fitness advocate, is pleased to announce that is has been accepted as a sponsoring member of the Committee on Accreditation for the Exercise Sciences (CoAES). The CoAES sets the standards for accrediting academic programs in colleges and universities that prepare individuals to enter the exercise science and personal fitness training professions. These accreditation standards constitute the minimum requirements to which an accredited program is held accountable.

“As an NCCA-accredited certification provider, the American Council on Exercise is proud to be a key player in the development and recognition of quality academic programs in the college and university setting,” said Scott Goudeseune, president, American Council on Exercise. “These guidelines, in the field of exercise science, ensure that students are adequately prepared for lasting and rewarding careers in the fitness industry.”

A national professional organization can join CoAES if it believes that its membership has legitimate concerns about, and responsibilities for, the quality of personnel prepared in educational programs accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

The CAAHEP accredits programs upon the recommendation of the CoAES. Criteria to join CoAES include that the organization demonstrates consistency with both CoAES and CAAHEP’s purpose and mission and demonstrates generally accepted best practices with respect to its membership.
