ACE Board Member Selected to President's Council on Physical Fitness Science Board

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Dec. 6, 2006) – The American Council on Exercise (ACE), America’s Authority on Fitness, is pleased to announce that Wojtek Chodzko-Zajko, Ph.D., ACE Board Member, has been selected to the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports (PCPFS) Science Board.

The PCPFS Science Board was formed in 2003 to ensure that the messages and programs of the Council are scientifically sound. To date, the board's review and input includes the long-standing President's Challenge program as well as the many other initiatives of the Council.

The board includes ten scholars who were selected due to the significant contributions he or she has made to the research and science of physical activity, fitness, health, and sports. For more information visit,

Chodzko-Zajko is the head of the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and has dedicated the past 15 years to studying how physical activity affects health and quality in the aging population.

He served on the World Health Organization, Scientific Advisory Committee, which issued guidelines for physical activity in older adults. He currently chairs the Active Aging Partnership, a national coalition in the area of healthy aging, which links the American College of Sports Medicine, the National Institute on Aging, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Geriatrics Society, the National Council on Aging, the American Association for Retired Persons and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Chodzko-Zajko earned his doctorate in exercise physiology from Purdue University and a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology from the University of London.
