San Diego, Calif. – Jan. 06, 2005 – The American Council on Exercise (ACE), America’s non-profit fitness advocate, is proud to announce it has been recognized as a San Diego City Schools Partner in Education. ACE and San Diego City Schools (SDCS) Physical Education Department have entered into a partnership to promote youth fitness through increased opportunities for physical activity and enhanced education for healthy lifestyles.

“Our goal in partnering with San Diego City Schools is to help bring additional opportunities for students to get more physical activity in school through our youth outreach program Operation FitKids (OFK),” said Ken Germano, ACE president and founder of Operation FitKids. “Youth inactivity is an epidemic and students need to be taught the value of an active lifestyle.”

Through the partnership, SDCS Physical Education Department will help support OFK’s mission to provide educational materials and establish and/or renovate fitness facilities in local schools.

ACE and SDCS Physical Education Department will work together on the following:

  • Donate new fitness equipment and materials to already established Operation Fit Kids Centers (currently at eight high schools in the San Diego City Schools district)
  • Conduct fitness presentations, including hands-on activities, to raise awareness of youth inactivity and its health and academic consequences
  • Present Careers in Fitness program to teach students about health and fitness careers in classrooms or at career fairs The San Diego City Schools Partnerships in Education Program forms collaborative agreements between schools and businesses; cultural arts, professional, service and non-profit organizations; among others to combine mutual resources to accomplish specific goals.
