ACE Appoints Fabio Comana Certification and Exam Development Manager

San Diego, Calif. –August 5, 2004- The American Council on Exercise (ACE), America’s non-profit fitness advocate, announced today that Fabio Comana has been appointed to manager of certification and exam development. Comana will oversee enhancement, administration and maintenance of all ACE certification programs. In addition, he will manage ACE’s National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accreditation and work with subject matter experts and exam committees to develop and administer ACE programs.

“Fabio brings a wealth of experience to The American Council on Exercise,” said Graham Melstrand, director of educational services for ACE. “In addition to holding master’s degrees in both exercise physiology and nutrition, Fabio is a practicing fitness professional and an educator in a university setting.”

Comana serves as an adjunct instructor for San Diego’s only ACE-affiliated extension program offering practical guidance to newly certified fitness professionals at the University of California San Diego. His previous experience included working as the general and wellness manager with Club One, Inc. in San Diego responsible for the evaluation and implementation of Fire Department Safety and Wellness Programs.

Comana is currently an ACE certified personal trainer; National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) certified strength and conditioning specialist; certified health-fitness instructor through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM); and contributing author for the National Volunteer Fire Council Health and Wellness Project.

Originally from South Africa, Comana earned master’s degrees in nutrition and exercise physiology from San Diego State University.
