New Concepts and Strategies in Healthy Youth Programming

This course is designed to educate students on new concepts and strategies in healthy youth programming. Specifically, youth strength, conditioning, and performance programs will be discussed. The focus will be geared towards children age 6-18. This course will include both classroom and hands on active participation for the students. There will breakdown for specific strategies for the following age groups: 6-9, 10-13, 14-18. Concepts will be provided to build the knowledge base for students so they will understand the different needs for the different age groups. Exercise strategies will include a dynamic warm up, core stabilization, proper body control and movement patterns, and proper lifting techniques. We will also identify the common injuries seen with each age group as it relates to skeletal growth and development. Strategies will be provided for prevention of these common injuries as well as developing an understanding when they need to seek medical care. Students will also learn how to assess various movement patterns for each age group. They will also develop strategies to help children develop proper movement patterns.
