Ballast Ball Pilates is a unique fusion program that blends the free-flowing resistance movements of the BOSU® Ballast Ball with traditional Pilates mat work. The workout begins with Pilates inspired calorie burning standing exercises and finishes with mat work designed to firm, shape and tone the core and lower body. The easy to follow cardio segment blends low impact moves with standing Pilates exercises using the BOSU® Ballast Ball to challenge aerobic fitness and improve posture. This total body workout incorporates the foundations of the six Pilates principles. Although this is a fusion workout, the basic principles of Pilates are followed and instructed throughout the class. Through a mind/body/spirit approach to movement, the Pilates based exercises use the mind and body to achieve purposeful exercise with maximum results. The six principles include: ? Centering: All Pilates based exercises are sourced from the center or core. The focus is on the “powerhouse” which is the area between the lower ribs and the pubic bone. ? Concentration: Full attention to the exercise through all phases of movement. ? Control: Every exercise is done with muscular control. ? Precision: Proper placement and alignment is achieved through maintaining awareness in all phases of movement. ? Breath: Coordinating the exercises with the breath and using full breaths to pump the air in and out of the lungs. ? Flow: Pilates based exercises are done in a flowing, graceful manner without stiff or rigid movement.
