The most current exercise trends aim to induce metabolic stress upon the body to achieve great results; however, effective metabolic programming requires a good understanding of the roles of the metabolic pathways within the body. In this recorded webinar originally broadcast June 16, 2010, Fabio Comana (ACE Exercise Physiologist) reviews the fundamentals of the energy pathways and discusses the application to personal training based on the latest research. An understanding of these pathways will enhance your knowledge of the roles each macronutrient plays in energy metabolism, improve your understanding of fuel utilization, and enable you to design exercise programs to maximize your clients’ metabolic efficiency. Enjoy the benefits of an ACE instructor in the comfort of your own home through this convenient recorded webinar.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Define the concept of "energy" within the body.
  • Explain the basic roles and storage sites of the three macronutrient-fuels within the body.
  • Identify the fundamental roles and limitations of the three energy pathways.
  • Describe the primary mechanisms of the phosphagen, fast glycolytic and oxidative pathways.
  • Specify key aerobic and anaerobic adaptations that occur with training.
