  • The Continuing Education Course, Your Client's FrameWork -7 Steps to Healthy Muscles, Bones and Joints, by orthopedic surgeon Nicholas DiNubile, M.D., is based on the book FrameWork, as well as a 77-minute DVD created especially for ACE fitness professionals and a special downloadable version of DiNubile's screening tool, "The Self-Test: Are You Built to Last?".

The 250-page comprehensive text, written in an easy-to-understand format by DiNubile and William Patrick, offers the first medically based fitness program designed to help individuals improve their musculoskeletal durability and navigate around injuries and musculoskeletal vulnerabilities. The 77-minute FrameWork DVD is divided into three segments: an exclusive interview with Dr. DiNubile; step-by-step demonstrations of exercise modifications, featuring exercises for low back pain, elbow tendinitis, knee and hip arthritis, and a host of other maladies; and footage taken directly from a PBS special which features demonstrations of the core exercises covered in the book. Finally, the downloadable self-test screening is the first step in the seven-step FrameWork program, and serves as a tool to help you identify clients' muscle imbalances, weaknesses or tightness, deficits in balance/proprioception, and loss of range of motion.

    You will learn:

    • Describe physiological characteristics of bone and soft tissues, and how they affect a healthy musculoskeletal system.
    • Describe the musculoskeletal screening tests which can help identify a client's weak links and allow for a tailored exercise program.
    • Identify programming modifications that fitness professionals can apply when training clients with certain musculoskeletal limitations.
    • Demonstrate how to properly perform different core exercises using either a mat or a ball.
    • Understand key nutrition and stress reduction strategies to support a healthy frame
    • Discuss options for navigating the healthcare system related to injury treatment

This is a very redundant course for this particular "Specialist Program". I didn't learn much more than I already knew for the past 20+ years. Maybe 10-15% of it is informative and beneficial for an experienced Personal Trainer, Nutritionist, and former athlete. I hope the other remaining 3 courses specific to Knee, back, and shoulder conditions is more specific. The first course I took of this curriculum, Post-Orthopedic Rehabilitation for Personal Trainers, was a bit more informative and I learned some new things. I really would like to see some tools, as in, "forms" for the Trainer to use for client assessments. More tools for the intake and for communicating info to other professionals would be very helpful. That's where I lack info.

FrameWork contains valuable information but based mostly on a doctor's perspective and opinion, mostly word play- not very helpful. It leaves out a lot of information, certain parameters to take, how to build a better foundation(muscular integration), golfer's elbow.. etc. Book needs to revisit the facts on Fats. Most exercises are obsolete (not very functional) and executed poorly. Some of the injuries focus only on "bandaging" the localized area, this is temporary relief, does not exactly correct the problem.

Great Structure. The only thing I believe that could be better is allowing to see the correct answer if you had gotten a question wrong but other than that its perfect.

ACE RESPONSE:  Thanks for your review Jennifer!  We are glad you enjoyed the course.

Dr. DiNubile writes as if Evolution is a fact. Newsflash! It's a theory. That's why they call it Darwin's THEORY of Evolution.

i know that most of the information applies, but I take measure with the fact the manual was published in 2005. With the progress the Sports Science and medical field has made since the information was compiled, I feel what was presented is inadequate.

This is a good overall course to learn proper considerations and training techniques to avoid and recuperate from injury.

Not up to date with current research. One area in particular was stretching.

It is very important for trainers to be able to try and keep people active while not causing injury. The key to this is to identify weak links and problem areas, which the program does a good job of covering. Well structured, DVD is not too long but covers the main items as a good review and more in-depth look at the system, and the test was representative of the material.

Course was a bit outdated interns of diet and some of the exercises. Also, the DVD is Windows only - I am unable to view it. It should state that someplace before purchase or test questions specific to the DVD should be taken off of the test.

I liked this course. The "Framework" book is very helpful from a practical, hands-on standpoint. I plan to incorporate a good bit of it into my everyday work with clients.

Should be required curriculum for all trainers! Great course.

ACE RESPONSE:  Thank you Carmen for your feedback!  We are happy you enjoyed the course and hope it will become a staple in your fitness library.

This book is written for the lay person and has so much cutsie fluff and back stories it's time consuming to filter through it to find the real information if you don't have hours and hours to read through all of it. Best part is in the very back.
