SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Feb. 2, 2011)—The American Council on Exercise (ACE), America’s leading authority on fitness and the largest nonprofit fitness certification, education and training organization in the world, today announced an expansion of its “Find an ACE Trainer” initiative within the AARP Fitness & Wellness Program for AARP members.  AARP is the leading nonprofit, nonpartisan social welfare organization for people age 50 and over in the United States.  As an integral component of ACE’s nationwide campaign to eliminate obesity, this opportunity makes new benefits and discounts available to America’s fastest growing population segment.

As part of this expanded collaboration, AARP members will receive a 20 percent discount on personal fitness and group exercise programs with qualified ACE-certified fitness professionals in their local area.  They will also have the choice of selecting a discounted one-on-one session with a trainer, or participating with friends and family in semi-private or group fitness classes – a way to make fitness available and community-oriented for this important population.  Additionally, AARP members will receive a 20 percent discount on all ACE material if interested in taking steps to become an ACE-certified professional.

“Broadening our relationship with AARP is a substantial milestone for ACE, as we can now present our expansive network of nearly 50,000 professionals the opportunity to work with an ever-growing population that will benefit both trainer and AARP clientele,” says Scott Goudeseune, ACE president and CEO.  “We are thrilled to be able to help our certified professionals grow their businesses and are equally as pleased to give AARP members the chance to work with a certified fitness professional, accredited by a third-party organization, that can help them maintain positive health and achieve their fitness goals in a safe environment and at a special discount.  Our goal is to help people remain physically fit at all stages of their lives through a sound fitness regimen, a key factor we strongly believe will also help us attain our goal of eliminating obesity in America.”

Effective immediately, all ACE-certified professionals who enroll in the “Find an ACE Trainer” initiative within the AARP Fitness & Wellness Program will have the opportunity to bring fitness training to AARP members through this collaborative effort.  Qualified ACE-certified fitness professionals that participate in the expanded program have the opportunity to set their own prices and work directly with AARP members.  Trainers are accessible through www.aarpfitness.com so AARP members can easily find qualified trainers locally.  In addition, participating ACE-certified fitness professionals will receive 0.2 eCredits to use towards continuing education courses upon enrolling in the program.

“AARP encourages its members and everyone over 50 to live healthy and keep fit,” adds David Mathis, senior vice president of health products and services at AARP Services, Inc., AARP’s for-profit subsidiary.  “We are happy to continue the relationship with the American Council on Exercise and, through this collaboration, give our members an affordable way to meet their personal health and wellness goals.”
