San Diego, September 14, 2018 - The American Council on Exercise (ACE) issued the following statement today upon release of the latest State of Obesity: Better Policies for a Healthier America report. The annual report by Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation found that 18.5 percent of American children and 30.5 percent of U.S. adults had obesity in 2015-16, the highest rates ever documented by the National Health and Nutrition Exam Survey:

“This report is a national call to arms," said Cedric X. Bryant, PhD, FACSM, President and Chief Science Officer for ACE. “ACE is committed to continued, even more vigorous cross-sector collaboration to reverse these disturbing trends through concerted action to get more people moving and discover healthier lifestyles. We agree with the report’s driving recommendation that communities, government entities, and the private sector must work collectively on policies, practices and programs that drive meaningful outcomes. Over time, these efforts will get people of all ages and demographics moving, ultimately saving and enhancing lives while reducing healthcare costs.”
