When it comes to fitness apparel, Nike is known for combining high-tech design with fashionable styles. But too many bells and whistles can lead to overpriced gear that may not be appropriate across a wide range of sports and activities.
The Nike New Dedication Airborne Women's Long Tank Top, which features mesh panels and built-in support, is touted as a multi-sport top suitable for everything from strength training to basketball. In addition to its patented Dri-FIT fabric, Nike has added UV protection (SPF 30), although its racerback/scooped front design still necessitates the use of sunscreen for outdoor use.
Overall, the top provides adequate coverage and does not ride up when the arms are lifted overhead (although the loose fit around the hips means it may ride up during some inverted yoga poses). Its slightly thicker material and heavy-duty bra support should eliminate the need for additional support (a common practice among many larger-breasted women), although smaller-breasted women might find the construction a bit heavy or even constricting. Although the fabric helps to keep sweat away from the skin, this top may be better suited for running and other outdoor sports and less appropriate for heated yoga classes.
Designed to fit snugly, this top runs slightly small and, depending upon the degree of support you need, you may want to order one size larger than usual.
What we liked:
- High-tech fabric keeps sweat away from skin and protects against UV rays
- Durable construction and flat seams that reduce chafing
What we didn't like:
- Heavier fabric and construction may make exercising in high temperatures less comfortable
- Loose fit around torso allows top to ride up during inverted yoga poses
