Backed by rave reviews from Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna, Tracy Anderson has parlayed her celebrity trainer status into a series of exercise DVDs that feature her unique approach to fitness. Anderson believes that the key to a long and lean physique is a combination of dance aerobics and high-repetition exercises designed to target smaller, rather than larger, muscles. Her theories sound sensible until she recommends two hours of exercise every day and asserts that a woman should never use anything heavier than a three-pound weight.
Anderson’s Dance Cardio Workout features contemporary and complicated choreography that, once mastered, provides a fun and effective cardio workout. Each combination is broken down into smaller segments before adding on. However, Anderson’s cuing is often late and sometimes non-existent. The only way to effectively perform this workout is to practice and memorize the choreography until it becomes second nature. Otherwise, there is too much stopping and starting to maintain an elevated heart rate. Additionally, many of the moves are high-impact and may be difficult to perform on carpet. Finally, the choreography requires more space that most people have in their living areas.
This workout DVD is best for experienced dancers or individuals who are highly motivated to learn complicated choreography and are not frustrated by lack of cuing and instruction.
