ACE Personal Trainer Manual (5th Edition) Incorporates Expertise from Leading Experts in Allied Health, Exercise Science, and Behavioral Psychology

SAN DIEGO, July 17, 2014 – Addressing the needs of an aging and increasingly overweight population, the American Council on Exercise (ACE) has released a new, comprehensive resource that prepares personal trainers to play a key role in the healthcare continuum.

The ACE Personal Trainer Manual (5th Edition) provides exercise professionals with the latest evidence-based training solutions and complementary health-behavior strategies to empower clients to make meaningful changes and reach their goals for improved function, health, fitness, and performance.

“The world of fitness is rapidly changing, and it’s up to quality certification providers like ACE to keep members of our profession current,” said ACE President and CEO Scott Goudeseune. “Providing Certified Personal Trainers and other members of our industry with the latest science-based practical solutions will help them lead people more effectively to sustainable lifestyle change.”

The resource includes the enhanced ACE Integrated Fitness Training® (ACE IFT®) Model; a comprehensive system for exercise programming and health behavior change that personal trainers can adapt and apply to meet the unique health and fitness needs of each client. The ACE IFT Model was developed by ACE with input from leading experts in exercise physiology, behavior change, nutrition, applied kinesiology, and healthcare .

In addition to the manual, ACE has created a digital learning experience that brings the information to life through an online learning platform that includes applied videos and demonstrations, diagnostic sample tests, interactive syllabus with quizzes to assess learning, and an eBook platform that houses both the ACE Personal Trainer Manual (5th Edition) and ACE’s Essentials of Exercise Science for Fitness Professionals text.

Incorporating the most modern technology in digital publications, the eBook allows aspiring personal trainers and industry veterans to access the content from virtually any mobile device or desktop. They can also bookmark and highlight key content, take notes, and access hyperlinks embedded in the text when connected to the Internet.

“It was important for us to create an ACE Personal Trainer Manual and study experience that delivers new answers to new questions that fitness professionals are encountering with today’s clients, and to deliver it in a way that caters to different learning types,” said ACE Chief Science Officer Cedric Bryant, Ph.D. “The result is truly a step forward for our industry and a clear reflection of ACE’s commitment to being a thought leader in our field.”
