In-Office Health Coaches to Help Deliver Wellness-Focused Approach to Care

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – With doctors of chiropractic increasingly moving toward a more wellness-focused approach to care, the California Chiropractic Association (CCA) and American Council on Exercise (ACE) have partnered to bring health coaches into chiropractic offices to meet the emerging demand for prevention-centered care.

The partnership is designed to provide doctors of chiropractic (DCs) or members of their teams specialized training in exercise science, nutrition, and behavior modification to help empower patients and members of their communities to adopt healthy lifestyle changes, and to help expand the services they offer.

“California’s doctors of chiropractic are leading their communities to overall wellness and lifestyle change. DCs specialize in helping the body heal itself and focus on a preventive approach to care,” said CCA President Dr. Matt Hubbard. “Our new partnership with ACE will allow CCA members to combine our knowledge of the human body with specialized expertise in behavior change, nutrition and fitness. Earning the ACE Health Coach Certification will help CCA members empower Californians to help themselves and return our state to its rightful place as a leader and role model for promoting healthy living.”

“This partnership with CCA aligns our goal of positioning ACE Certified Health Coaches to help in the prevention and treatment of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and other lifestyle-related disease,” said ACE President and CEO Scott Goudeseune. “Now patients turning to chiropractors for wellness treatment throughout California can get also get the support they need to adopt meaningful, long-term behavior change.”

The ACE Health Coach Certification is the only certification of its kind accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), known as the gold standard accreditation for numerous professional certifications in healthcare, fitness and allied health.

In addition to information on behavioral psychology, the curriculum includes insight on weight management psychology, the physiology of obesity, techniques for lifestyle coaching, development of exercise programs based on the ACE Integrated Fitness Training® model, and the relationship between physical activity and nutrition for weight control.
