San Diego, Calif. – Nov. 17, 2004 - The American Council on Exercise (ACE), America’s non-profit fitness advocate, today announced that it has received the “Best Personal Trainer Certification” Award from Competitor Magazine, California’s Fitness Magazine covering triathlon, running, biking, swimming and endurance sports in general. Survey respondents wrote in their vote for “Best Personal Trainer Certification” and ACE was selected first among other certification organizations including the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).

This is the first year Competitor has included the “Personal Trainer Certification” category in its third-annual “Best of” reader poll. Advertisements in July, August, September and October issues urged readers to vote online at www.competitor.com for a variety of “Best of” categories - with the “Personal Trainer Certification” category receiving the most votes.

"ACE’s success in the Competitor Magazine survey is a testament to our commitment to providing the highest standards for personal trainer certification possible," said Ken Germano, president, American Council on Exercise. "With the more than 100 fitness certifications available, we are proud to be nationally recognized for our high quality programs that help protect the public against unqualified fitness professionals and unsafe and ineffective fitness instruction."

The American Council on Exercise is the world’s largest fitness certification organization with more than 50,000 certified fitness professionals. In 2003, ACE was proud to receive National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accreditation for all ACE professional fitness certifications, including Personal Trainer. The NCCA is a highly credible and well-respected organization with a proven track record for accrediting certification programs from other allied health professions (e.g., athletic training, nursing, dietetics, podiatry, etc,). NCCA accreditation serves as a benchmark on how organizations should conduct certification and ACE is one of only two certification organizations in the fitness industry whose programs have been accredited.

The “Best of” award winners will be announced in the December issue of Competitor as well as online at www.competitor.com.
