AMERICAN COUNCIL ON EXERCISE (ACE) APPOINTS GRAHAM MELSTRAND DIRECTOR OF EDUCATIONAL SERVICES

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Jan. 23, 2003 – The American Council on Exercise (ACE), America’s nonprofit fitness advocate, today announced that Graham Melstrand has been promoted to Director of Educational Services. Melstrand will be responsible for the success of all ACE educational programs including continuing education, practical training and certification.

“Graham has a unique blend of exercise science knowledge and business management experience which will help to ensure the future growth of our educational services and programs,” said Dr. Cedric Bryant, chief exercise physiologist and VP of Educational Services.

Melstrand came to ACE in November of 2000. As Field Sales Manager, he has been responsible for the development and execution of the ACE North American sales plan including key accounts, Federal Government and military, Universities, trade association partnerships and specialty retail.

Melstrand joined ACE with nearly 10 years of sales experience in the manufacturing side of the fitness industry. Melstrand previously worked with Reebok/CCS Fitness Inc. in Aurora, Colo., most recently as the director of new business development. Prior to Reebok, he spent five years with StarTrac in a field management role.

In addition to his professional sales experience, Melstrand has a strong background in fitness. He was an athletic trainer for the Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Institute in Costa Mesa, Calif., and at University High School in Irvine, Calif. He holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education/athletic training from California State University, Long Beach. He was a nationally ranked cyclist between 1981 and 1991, a participant in the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Trials, and a member of the U.S. National Team Development Program from 1983 to 1990.
