Sarcopenia is a progressive process marked by a degenerative loss of muscle mass, function and strength without a known cure; the key to avoiding this syndrome is to maintain muscle mass throughout one’s life. While the consequences of sarcopenia don’t typically manifest until later in life (60 years and above), the onset of this syndrome can actually happen much earlier. In fact, sarcopenia is characterized by approximately 3-8% reduction in lean muscle mass per decade after 30 years of age. This webinar will discuss the latest research on sarcopenia and muscle maintenance and identify the best dietary and exercise approaches for middle-aged Americans to adopt in order to maintain muscle and reduce their risk for sarcopenia.
