Positive psychology is an umbrella term describing the scientific study of what makes life most worth living. Positive psychologists concern themselves with positive experiences, positive traits, positive relationships, and positive institutions. Positive psychology suggests a variety of practical strategies for enhancing the well-being of individuals. These strategies are best used in settings described as natural homes of positive psychology, situations in which doing well (as opposed to not doing poorly) are recognized, celebrated, and encouraged. Health and fitness clubs, YMCAs, JCCs, recreation centers, and clinical rehabilitation facilities are among these natural homes, although positive psychology is just beginning to inform their practices. Findings from positive psychology can help those who work in these settings to enhance the physical fitness and health of their clients. This webinar provides an overview of positive psychology and some of its practical strategies that professionals can use to enhance the fitness and health of their clients.
